Navigating The Puzzle of Juicing Machines

Tribest Slowstar JuicerThis is the story of how I navigated through the puzzle of juicer machines and finally settled on Tribest Slowstar Juicer for myself and my wife.

My background is sports nutrition and over the years I have helped others improve their performance,  become fitter and lose weight in that order.  Extra weight is often connected to a nutritional imbalance as well as how intensity we engage our muscles without getting hurt.

Nutritional Imbalances

There are three major parts to nutritional imbalance. The first is eating too much calorie-dense but nutritionally poor foods. You call them junk food for good reason. The second is eating too few low-calorie nutritionally dense foods. Nutrition density is how many vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and other nutrients a food has. This is a deeper look at food beyond fat, carbs, and protein is in the food. The third is the process of losing our ability to break down and absorb nutrients from food. Lack of time, lack of information, and aging contribute to this.

I was looking for a juicer machine that would help me provide every cell in my body with nutrients on daily basis.  Let me repeat this: Provide every cell in your body with nutrients on daily basis.

You see, it didn’t matter to me if the juicer was centrifugal, masticating, or triturating. Single auger or a double auger, a sleek design or an antique, a vertical or horizontal style were all the same for me.

I wanted the best juicer that provided the highest quality of juice that I could use every day. That focus took me through all the other elements without losing sight of what was important.

Tribest Slowstar Footprint & Use

Tribest Slowstar Juicer is vertical which means it did not take much space on my counter. Don’t get me wrong, I am fortunate to have plenty of counter space but I don’t like clutter. Many of you may have smaller counter space which makes the size important. Remember that I wanted to provide nutrients to my body every day. It doesn’t matter if I dislike clutter or have small counter space if I begin storing my juicer, I would use it less. Your juicer needs to be in plain sight and accessible to increase your use.

You are struggling to establish a healthy lifestyle. Part of that struggle is the accessibility of junk food in plain sight.  To match that you need to keep your juicer where you can see it and reach it. Tribest Slowstar’s vertical design can fit on top of almost any counter.

I understand that with my A-type personality I will always be busy. I also know that could be an excuse. I needed a juice extractor that works fast. The faster the better.  At first, I thought the high RPM centrifugal juicing machines are the way to go. Maybe because most of many of my family members are pilots and I wanted to hear the sound of an airplane taking off in my kitchen. High RPM is noisy.

Centrifugal Juicing Machines Limitations

When I looked closer at the process I realized three things.

Centrifugal machines are great for hard vegetables like apples and carrots.  Remember that my goal was to provide nutrients to every cell of my body so that everything works well. Juicing cannot be limited to hard vegetables. Centrifugal juicers do a very poor job with leafy green vegetables that contain the most nutrients. That did not work for me.

These juicers also created a lot of foam which oxidizes the nutrients and destroys them. I wanted more nutrients not less.  To top that the high RPM created heat that kills many of nutrients.  And finally, these machines create a lot of pulp that goes to waste.

Essentially these centrifugal machines gave an illusion of providing nutrients but failed to deliver.  I had little time and didn’t want to waste it. I wanted nutrients.

Masticating and Triturating Juicers & Nutritional Value

To avoid the foam, oxidation, the nutrient loss and to increase my yield and reduce my pulp, I started looking at horizontal masticating juicers and triturating juicing machines.  These machines were bigger which didn’t matter to me. They juice hard fruits and leafy green vegetables equally well. They make high-quality juice with very little foam and pulp. Their slow speed keeps everything cold so the nutrients are preserved.

So far so good.  Not quite.

I couldn’t find enough information about the company that distributes the triturating juicer which was close to $1,300 and the warranty on that machine was not even close to industry standards.  I have enough going in my life that I didn’t need to worry about potential hassles with that.

The masticating machines had two things working against them for me.  I needed to prepare what I wanted to juice and I had to keep using the pusher. That takes additional time especially when the juicer is slower by design. I prefer to do one or the other if I could. And in some of them, you had to adjust the backpressure to keep them from clogging. This was another thing that would take time until I moved through the learning curve.

Also, the masticating juice extractor with the best warranty and highest consumer satisfaction did not do well in making nut milk.

Going back to my objective which was getting most nutrients to every cell in my body.  Nuts contain some of the most important nutrients for performance and health.   To make nut milk you need pure water to be mixed in with the nuts. In that masticating juicers, water is treated ad juice and runs through the system and does not mix well. Your nut milk is nut and water. Not good.

What else was there?  Vertical slow masticating juicers.

I am guessing the manufacturers first designed this for a smaller footprint and then made improvements.

Vertical slow masticating juicing machines like Tribest Slowstar Juicer simplified things a great deal without sacrificing much.

First, when you prepare your food, you do not use the pusher. You just chop and drop in the chute. The juicer does the rest.  I like that.

You can juice anything. Hard fruits like apples to leafy greens like kale and even wheatgrass. There is a flapper underneath that keeps the back pressure needed to get most juice and there is a stopper that holds the water and nut in the container to make smooth nut milk.

Omega VSJ vs Tribest Slowstar Juicer

I had a winner in vertical slow-masticating juicers. But I was not done. There are some very good machines out there with 10 and 15 years warranties. I still had to find the right one for me. I ended up choosing between Omega VSJ and Tribest Slowstar Juicer. I finally settled for Slowstar juice extractor for the following reasons in the order of what is important to me.

Slow star motor turns at a steady cold speed of only 47 RPM which prevents foaming and oxidation. Its motor is designed to be slow, however at 200 watts and 9 horsepower, it was about twice as strong as Omega VSJ with 150 watts and 4 horsepower. More power means I could juice without to0 much clogging that requires reversing the engine.

The patented Duoblade Auger in Slowstar Juicer cuts the long fibrous vegetable like kale, celery and wheatgrass in smaller pieces that make it easier to juice and again less chance of clogging.

The outlet port is also larger to allow the pulp to flow out easier.

All these come together when you begin to use the mincing and ice cream-making attachment to help you create perfect consistency sauces, salsas, nut milk, nut butter, frozen fruit ice cream and even raw vegan bread.

I also liked how Tribest chose to be honest, transparent, and clear about BPA.  They say in writing that their products are “Virtually BPA Free.”  Other companies either make claims they cannot support or just ignore the problem.
